The video is about stavlaft. A heavy wood construction method combining log building and timber frame. This video covers how to make the timber frame part of stavlaft. Construction of the top frame and gables with perlins is covered in other videos from the school shop.
Techniques covered are: Bottom frame joinery, Corner post mark-up and cutting, corner post profile, panel slot or recess on post and top frame, fitting together bottom frame, corner posts and top frame. log end profile and chamfer for flashing on bottom frame. The demonstrations are done on a temporary wooden foundation measuring 3×4 metres, but are usable on larger projects.
